President Ersin Tatar met with officials from the US Department of State in Washington, DC.
According to a presidential readout, Tatar met with Josh Huck, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State overseeing policy for Southern Europe and the Caucasus and Michele Sison, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs.
Tatar was accompanied by his Special Representative, Güneş Onar, and Damla Güçlü, the TRNC’s representative in Washington.
President Tatar also came together with the Turkish media. He told the press that his meeting with the officials from the US Department of State was productive, adding that at the meeting he conveyed TRNC’s policy of sovereign equality and equal international status. Tatar said they would not compromise on their demand and that the policy was a precondition for talks to settle the Cyprus problem to start.
He further stated that he informed the officials that sanctions and embargoes on the TRNC should be lifted.
Later, Tatar came together with representatives of Turkish Cypriots and Turkish community representatives.
Tatar will be meeting United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday in New York.
